First year, early production example of Gibson's tribute to lifelong ES-175 user, Herb Ellis. Produced on 6/19/1991, the 16" archtop body features a figured maple top with thick binding, single Florentine cutaway, with 3-1/2" depth; gold plated metal parts including "zig-zag" tailpiece, tune-o-matic, and pickup cover; single tone and volume controls; light cosmetic wear present, including finish crazing, checking, and light bubbling around the heel/block area (common for this era). The 24-3/4" scale mahogany neck has a bound rosewood board, split parallelogram fretboard inlays, 1-11/16" wide nut, with cool "rounded Jazz profile"; small typical vertical finish checks on neck binder present w/ mild fretwear in treble positions. Equipped with gold-plated Grover tuners on peghead; Herb would often install a Van Eps String Damper, thereby removing truss rod cover, and rendering the artist model signature beneath Gibson logo on spec until 2004; early production examples shipped, like this one, are absent of signature, and pearl crown on peghead. Included in sale is original hard case (case handle bracket has become un-riveted).
