This violin is unmarked but we believe it is German in origin. Label reads "Sol E. Roach, Windber, PA Remodeled for (or from) Mike Powell, 1908". Sol Roach purchased many factory-made violins and regraduated and remodeled the tops to create instruments of highly improved sound quality. This one has a tight grained spruce top and lovely 2-piece flamed maple back and sides. It has received a deluxe set up and Dominant strings. Highly resonant and full tone. There are 2 small repaired top cracks on either side of the fingerboard. It is possible the the top and back have been French polished or received an overspray of finish. There is also an interesting patch inside the violin on the back under the sound post. However there is no crack visible on the back. Comes with nice GEWA Concord hard case Body - 35.7 cm (14") Total length - 58.4 cm (23")
