Produced by Danelectro for the Silvertone brand, the 1480 series of amps were available to the masses via the Sears Roebuck catalog throughout the 1960's. The 1483 was introduced as a bass amplifier and has some noticeable differences from the 1484. It features a 5Y3 tube-rectified circuit, not too dissimilar from a Fender, which produces that characteristic tube sag, and a softer attack. Putting out only between 20-25 Watts via a pair of 6L6's, these amps are known for their sweet tube drive, with a nice overdriven crunch at higher volume settings. Even though it was originally intended as a bass amp, it makes an excellent guitar amp as well, similar to a Fender Bassman.

Not just vintage curiosities of the bygone garage band boom of the 60's, these amps have found their place in studios and remain an affordable option for vintage tube amp enthusiasts. Vampire Weekend, Beck, REM, Jack White - These are just some of the modern adopters of the Silvertone 1483.

This Silvertone is in very good condition, with a fairly clean front panel and some rips and tears throughout the cloth-covering over the amp. The matching cabinet is included and has some wear as well, but is in overall very good condition with the keeper tabs for the head intact.

The amp retains the original hard-wired cord to the cabinet and it’s two prong power cord. The original Silvertone branded tubeset is still present.

Potentiometer codes are from the 20th week of 1964, dating the amp to approximately mid 1964.
