The Mexican Guitarron is a traditional style bass guitar, with a large deep body seen in many mariachi groups. Tuned ADGCEA, it is interestingly familiar for many bassists albeit generally a fourth above what most players are accustomed to. Paracho, located in the high Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico, has hosted artisans whom have perfected their craft for over 200 years. Many of the luthiers that work at the Paracho Elite shop are fourth and fifth generation musical instrument makers.
This example by Paracho Elite Guitars, features some very nice traditional appointments while being a very solid and impressive instrument acoustically. It should not be understated how deep and rich the tone is on this instrument, while having nice volume for any acoustic format, it delivers a clear and punchy timbre.
Constructed with a Tacote wood top, and presumably a stained cedar wood back and sides, it measures a whopping 18.75" across its lower bout, with a depth over 9" at the peak of its arch (Guitarron, literally Spanish for "Large Guitar"). Loop ended strings wind over its bridge. The 26" scale is actually not too difficult to become acoustomed to, and the neck joins the body, in essence at the 5th of each string - making note placement more familiar than one would maybe anticipate with a foreign instrument like this. Geared tuners and a slotted headstock, this is not only a captivating instrument for anyones collection, it really offers up a new and exciting idea into the world of bass playing.
Includes original nylon gig bag.
