Nyberg built instruments are second to none, featuring high grade construction and sonic qualities meant to inspire. His talents date back into the 1990's building fine instruments in British Columbia and eventually with a tenure with Larrivee Guitars before going solo and moving to Hornby Island in '97.
Here we have one of the builders 24" 9 string Citterns - essentially an extended octave mandolin with a single low C on its 5th course. Built in 2014, this lovely instrument is constructed with a 15.5" body built of solid and arched wide-grained spruce top, internally X braced. A side sound port offers the player honest volume, the front soundhole decorated with a nice baroque inspired rosette cover. A nicely designed gold hanger tailpiece has Nybergs "N" imprinted, and meets the one piece ebony bridge, the saddle nice and tall.
The neck is designed with a long 24" scale length and 1 5/8" nut width, made of spanish cedar, the ebony fingerboard bound in a stained walnut. The neck is nice and straight with a functional truss rod, and yields nice low action which measures a comfortable 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret. Setup with round wounds currently, this has a nice tone that projects the low end nicely - with its 9th string (essentially a single course 5th string), ringing a pianolike low C.
