A lovely and well used Martin 12 string dating to 1971!
The Martin D12 series had existed some decades prior to this example, with guitars falling into different echelons based on appointments - this 28 example, boasting the traditional double binding on the top and back. Constructed with a standard spruce top, X bracing (with a fairly oversized bridge plate), and very attractive light and straight grained rosewood back & sides. A nice example overall, this has seen a fair amount of play, which is evident from the condition of the top, which includes various picker, bumps, bruises, and sealed cracks - basically in each bout "corner" as well as a notable spot on its back - and a repaired volute crack - all of which having been repaired here in our shop.
Sonically this guitar is very nice - with an opened up smooth top end and the three dimensional bass response you get out of 50 year old rosewood like this. It could be a great counter part for any serious player looking to get a 12 string in their arsenal that won't break the bank.
The guitar is set up well, albeit with a lowered saddle (about 1/32" remaining above the slot of the bridge). The neck is pretty straight with a little bit of forward relief present, ultimately pretty non-problematically. It's certainly possible that this guitar will "prefer" to have a neck set in its future, so it is currently priced accordingly, and again is set up fairly well all things considered - with action that measures 8/64" in height at the twelfth fret. The frets are in good working condition, albeit with expected wear, nothing that seems to stop this guitar from playing honestly. The original Grover tuners are present and function just as they should.
All in all, a cool and unique 12 string to have grace the shop! Comes with a hardshell case.
