A stunning and rare dreadnaught from Martin circa NAMM 2017. Martin guitars, are known for their huge tone favorable for all players, as well as their iconic and beautiful aesthetic choices that have become synonymous with acoustic guitar itself. This Custom Shop D-14 is one such instrument that delivers on all fronts, while being completely unique unto itself.
Constructed in a standard Dreadnaught size, with a 14 fret to the neck body (where it gets its name), this guitar is built with a very nice, wide grained Adirondack Spruce top - with forward scalloped X bracing and a really attractive Wild Grain Indian rosewood back & sides. A fully bound body with multi ply binding, with a triple ring rosette (with a nice herringbone center), and very nice gold bridge pins with red dots. Standard 25.5" scale length, 1.75" nut width - the neck, as mentioned meets at the 14th fret, and has a nice comfortable shallow C profile which measures .84" thick at the first position, tapering up to about an inch at the twelfth fret. The ebony fingerboard is not overly glitzy, with a more simple pattern made of abalone on the 5th, 7th and 9th fret only - yielding a nice look. This guitar has a nice volute, and slotted peg head with all gold Grover hardware.
This guitar comes to us used, but very well maintained with only simple surface scratches present. Structurally this guitar is completely free of issues, and its setup is superb - with a low 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret on the sixth string (and about 4.5/64" on the first). It plays beautifully, with and sings in each register, with the thump and volume one would expect from a high end Martin like this.
Includes the original hardshell case.
