A small body with a wide fingerboard, the Martin 00-21 is a fantastic finger style guitar. This example hails from 1969, the final year of Brazilian rosewood, arriving to us in very good condition. This would be a perfect recording instrument, with a beautifully defined & balanced woody midrange - and the three dimensional sound that the rosewood provides.
Fully bound 00 body constructed of aged wide grain spruce top and Brazilian rosewood sides and back. Original belly bridge made of rosewood, the saddle showing about 5/64" visible over the slot. The top shows only a *mild* belly, structurally stable with good braces. Internally this has a rear shifted x brace, and thin rosewood bridge plate in very good condition. The top on this example is strong, with only mild nicks present near its edge, and one sealed crack running near the south side of the pickguard. The rosewood showcases a very nice grain pattern and marquetry zipper center - a few cracks present near the heel.
The 12 fret neck is constructed out of maple with a rosewood fingerboard - the scale measuring 24.9". A wide nut model, the nut width measuring 1 7/8" - all making it a fantastic finger style or crossover instrument for a classical player. The action at the 12 fret is 9/64" on the low E and 7/64" on the high E - with only minimal amount one to remove from the saddle if desired - making it a bit of a contender for a neck reset - the price reflecting this. Ultimately, given the scale it feels okay for many. Currently setup with Waverly tuners, the originals included in the case.
Comes with slightly later era hardshell case.
