Located in Burlington Vermont, luthier Joseph Campanella began building Violins in 1996 and has since expanded into Mandolin builds. Campanella has certainly achieved a high status in the boutique Mandolin world, and is well regarded as a master builder with a fine attention to detail.
Here we have one of his F-5 models dating to 2012. With stunning violin-esque appointments, it is both a lovely instrument as well as an expert piece of wood working.
The standard F design is embellished with its violin binding work. The Spruce top internally has solid kerfing and a simple lightweight 2 tone bar bracing. The sides showcase a some serious flame, and the back is a beautiful solid, single piece of maple. This carved instrument has a fitting violin varnish finish, which expresses the tops tight grain nicely without any sonic compromise. This mandolin has a two piece ebony bridge (close to bottomed out), with a gold tailpiece
The neck is designed with a traditional 14" scale length.and made of a nice maple with an ebony fingerboard. The radius'd fingerboard sports a simple MOP dot inlay with vintage style narrow fret wire, all in great condition. Gold tuners flaunt the peg head of this Italian influenced design work, the overlay featuring a MOP bell design.
