Offered as a professional grade instrument by Gretsch from 1924-1928, the Orchestrella was started at $100 for the base model with additional appointments such as gold plating, and fancy pearl inlay as is present with this show-stopping example from 1925 that was restored to tip-top playing/looking order. The eleven inch diameter maple rim has all gold-plated hardware, including features a cool fifteen-hole archtop tonering, adjustable neck/dowel stick hardware, repro Oettinger style tailpiece, with later ebony armrest; this model featured soundholes in-between each bracket which were later replaced with Eagles (yes); the deep maple resonator is bound with maple with marquetry trimmings forming a pie-plate back, with circular pearl piece set in middle (some chips present). reglued rim cap cracks. The five piece maple neck has a 23" scale length ebony fingerboard, with profuse inlay on the peghead (pearl vines) and board, 1-1/8" nut width; equipped with original replated Pre-War Planetary tuners with some stable repaired cracks on buttons. A great player with a nice straight neck, restored in the late 20th century, with only some light later cosmetic wear. Included in sale is period Vega case (badge present), with gorgeous new tooled brown leather exterior.
