Fenders acquisition to Gretsch saw more imports on their budget friendly line, many produced at the Samick factory, and on occasion the Peerless factory. The Korean Peerless factory has become more and more renowned in the days of the internet, as players and collectors began putting two and two together that these Korean builders clearly knew their way around a guitar and paid a close attention to detail.
The Gretsch G5129 is a fully hollow single cut, laminate Archtop, fully bound and built for rock-a-billy and soul. DeArmond pickups put out a slightly thinner and brighter tone that compliments the fully hollow punch. From ripping attack, to subtle thick chords (that one can spruce up with the Bigsby), this is quite the performance instrument - suitable for just about any serious players collection - offering up a nice variety of sounds for any session player. Comfortable to sit with, it has a thinner body depth and a Gibson-esque 24.75" scale length.
This example comes to us in great shape from the family of the original owner. The guitar is cosmetically very clean with hardly any signs of wear. The red finish is nice and clean, the back is finished in black with hardly a mark on it. The finish is cloudy towards the edges of the headstock veneer. There is a bit of pick wear on the guard, but that's exactly what its for. The neck is nice and straight yielding very low action with room for any adjustment at the thumb screws of the bridge. The Bigsby is smooth, and it keeps its tuning great.
Includes a simple nylon gig bag!
