There are few instruments that surpass vintage Gibsons.
The LG series had gone through a number of changes over the years since its original inception, and this example dating to 1955 simply nailed it - and still sounds and plays superb. A lightweight and responsive tone that is not lacking in bass nor presence, we've yet to see another quite at this sound.
Likely an early 1955, complete with W prefix serial number - this example has an earlier factory original tear drop guard. The Top is constructed out of a very resonant two piece spruce soundboard top, fully bound with mahogany back and sides. Internally, this top is x braced, with all the scalloped bracing being quite "skinny" as many have put it. Original thin maple bridge plate is pinned and in good condition. The bridge does not appear to have been removed, and appears to have its original pins. Cosmetically and structurally the guitar is in great shape, with expected checking in the finish, and only insignificant nicks and dings present. The only repair is a sealed pickguard crack that is not cleated.
The neck marries the body at the 14th fret, and has a Gibson standard 24.75" scale length and 1 23/32" nut width. The neck is made of mahogany with a clean rosewood fingerboard. The C profile itself is a bit hefty with a thickness measuring .87" in depth at the first position tapering to about 1" at the eleventh fret. This guitar has a great neck angle with no signs of a reset, a tall original saddle, and action that measures a super easy 6-5/64" in height at the twelfth fret.
