One of the most iconic instruments of all time, the Gibson Les Paul has been an industry benchmark in electric guitar history. This 1976 example, fitted with a “Standard” truss rod cover, marks a transitional moment for Gibson moving to the Norlin factory.
With a “00” serial number, this example accurately dates to 1976. It is constructed with a conventional 3 piece plain maple cap a top a "pancake" mahogany body - stained in the oxblood finish. This example is outfitted with two full size humbuckers - less common than the mini-humbuckers from the era. While the Original Patent number pickups are present, the wiring has been changed throughout its life. While being brought back to original intentions, it has a disconnected mini toggle switch present - likely as a phase switch from a previous owner. It is missing it’s pickguard, and shows a fair bit of nicks, dings and scratches in its finish, with most notable wear along its edge.
The necks that were iconically Mahogany became multi-ply Maple as seen on this example, which added to the structural integrity. In an attempt to better prevent headstock cracks. This example has has its finish significantly worn on its profile. The profile is slightly slimmer measuring .82” in thickness at the first position tapering up slightly to .95” at the twelfth fret. The tuners have been replaced in this example with older Grovers which function well. Nice playability, the action is low measuring 3/64" in height at the twelfth fret - albeit with its thumb screws at the saddle bottomed out, preventing further adjustment. The fingerboard shows some wear, and while the frets have been replaced, it shows only minor wear. The binding has cracked in a few spots, as well as the pickup rings, but all is still fairly strong.
Weighs 10.1lbs
Original brown hardshell case is present, with original handle, wear in tolex and one broken latch.
