A descendant of the of the famed jazz guitar lineup - the L6-S was designed by Gibson alongside Bill Lawrence. Released in 1973, this guitar would branch off the traditional jazz stylings as an offer to the growing popularity of "fusion" electric jazz players. High endorsements from players like John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola and Pat Martino, paved the way for this guitar that strangely fell into a bit of obscurity amongst collectors and those who generally favored tradition. All in all, these guitars had come around, having been used in many other types of music since their initial release, not so different than the way of the Jazzmaster.

Constructed out of a maple body, with a set 24.75" maple neck, this retains a Gibson "feel" very well. A pair of Lawrence designed Super Humbuckers are connected to a Varia-tone circuit accessed through the chicken head knob. This gives the player a wide range of sonic combinations, from a standard Les Paul style setup, to both pickups in and out of series and phase.

This guitar comes to us in great shape from the previous owner. It has a nice cherry sunburst finish, with all original pickups, wiring and hardware. Cosmetically, it has some light surface wear, a chip in the pickguard and only a few simple dings present. The neck is nice and straight the "fretless wonder" frets of the era, nice and clean with even low action that measures about 4-5/64" in height at the twelfth fret - with plenty of room at the harmonica saddle bridge to adjust further. Original Grover tuners present and functional, this guitar is a great player for fusion or really anything one might decide to throw at it - making it an excellent session instrument.

Weighs 8.75 lbs. Includes hardshell case.
