One of the most iconic acoustic cannons, made popular by the likes of players like Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley & Gillian Welch. The J-45 is and has been a front runner in the Gibson product line for decades, with good reason. Even tempered bass response with a lot of volume - a dry upfront midrange which sits in a mix perfectly, and clear but "dark" treble response - makes this guitar popular amongst every kind of guitarist.

We are pleased to feature this example which due to appointments and its 6 digit serial stamp dates accurately to 1964. One of the finer playing examples, it looks good and plays even better with nice low action.

Cosmetically the body is in pretty condition, well loved from substantial use this example has the not often seen Natural finish - unlike the cherry burst. Structurally this in good condition with one repaired crack near the pickguard at the treble side upper bout. There are 7 previous dowel repairs are present in the top, as well as a sealed crack near the sound hole. Old dowel repairs have held up well - see photos. The top has a spliced in piece of spruce between the pickguard and the bridge - likely due to pick wear. The belly is very flat on this example. There is checking, nicks and dings throughout its Sitka top and mahogany back, but nothing outstanding or structurally of worry. Original maple bridge plate is present and in good shape. It is outfitted from the previous owner with a Fishman Humbucking sound hole pickup.

The 24.75" neck is nice and straight and plays with low action that measure about 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret - all adjustable at the bridge. No evidence of a past neck reset - the neck is nice and straight yielding really great setup. Original rosewood bridge has been reglued - likely when the top was worked on. Plenty of saddle height for the low action mentioned. Original low profile Gibson frets present, it is not in dire need for a re fret, as it plays easily with no dead spots, singing in every register. The fingerboard has some repair with old divots filled in flush, mainly at the first position. The profile has checking and finish missing along side its fingerboard edge, which has worn down naturally. The neck is a medium C profile that measures about .88" thick at the first position, and .97" at the tenth before the curvature of the heel. Standard thin 1 11/16 nut width. Kluson Deluxe tuners are present, with original buttons retaining good health, not shrunken, but nicely aged.

This is a great playing example from a great era of Gibson. Comes with a newer hardshell case.
