A top of the line, square shouldered dreadnaught, we welcome this Gibson Hummingbird from the late 60's. Constructed with a spruce top and mahogany back & sides, it has a large tone with a three dimensional bass response that is bright but warm. The bound mahogany neck is designed with a standard 25.5" scale length, seen here with a 1 5/8" nut width and a shallow neck profile - favorable to many electric guitarists. This guitar has clearly lived a few careers. New binding, it retains its interior layers of the multi ply, now with a parchment outer layer. A fitted piece of rosewood has been added to the bridge in a past repair - well done, but noticeable. A generally clean top, it has a cleat parallel with its B string off the rosette. Internally, braces have been reglued, including a replaced Popsicle stick brace underneath the fingerboard extension. A fairly oversized, but typical for the era, maple bridge plate has had various pickups installed in its past, now currently outfitted with a good Fishman. The shoulder of the guitar has the Fishman preamp (see photos), giving the user quick access for the EQ & volume (9 volt battery inside the sound hole). The bound back is in similar condition to the top, with surface wear and scratches - the rear binding original and with some crumbling bits. The bass side lower bout on the back side has a repaired crack. A nice clean pickguard, this would likely be towards the end of these famous pick guards being adhered onto the guitars, with later '68 issues having the pick guards screwed into the top (something generally deemed less favorable). As mentioned this example has the standard 5/8" narrow neck. The binding is in good shape, with replace frets that show light wear in the open chord position. The rosewood fingerboard and inlay are nice and vibrant. It appears to have had a fairly recent, very well done neck reset without much evidence of the repair. The bridge has been reglued, but retains its height and is fitted with a newer bone saddle that replaces the oversized option on an original model - the original slot having been filled in with rosewood. The saddle is nice and tall, and the action is low measuring only 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string, and 4/64" at the first. Original Gold Kluson deluxe tuners function well with slightly shrunken buttons. The head stock veneer shows some wear, with the Gibson logo nicely in tact. Includes an aftermarket hardshell case. Weighs 4.6lbs.
