Evocative Gibson H-2 in black finish, originally designed for the viola voice within a mandolin orchestra, built the year the Titanic sank! The fully bound A style body measures 11-3/16" wide on the bout, with reddish stained maple back and sides, with straight grained spruce top in black finish, bound oval soundhole with herringbone/ivoroid rosette, engraved tailpiece cover, with original tortoise pickguard with PAF clasp, and reproduction non adjustable ebony bridge; slight sinkage to top with, shrinkage and a few cracks present on binding, with notable finish flaking on the sides, checking and crazing present the mandola. The three piece 15-3/4" scale maple neck has a pronounced V profile, fully bound extended ebony fingerboard with very recent fretjob (new binding and nut), 1-5/16" wide at nut, with The Gibson and fleur de lis in pearl inlay on peghead overlay, and equipped with a rare set of Handel tuners; play wear present on back of neck, with filled hairline separations on overlay, and evidence of other tuners on peghead. An excellent playing example, with sweet tone and hardly any relief. Includes original hard case.
