A complete Gibson H-1 Mandola direct from the age of the Mandolin Orchestra. Pumpkin top, with Michigan maple back and sides. Original hardware present includes tuners, bone nut, and tailpiece cover w/ "The Gibson" script inlay (replaced tailpiece), with keenly fashioned reproduction pickguard. Finish checking present throughout, some playing wear on the back of the neck, and a few small dings present...most notably a chip off the center back of the neck by the heel. Finish has worn down in the area where the pickguard mounts on the side, and beneath non adjustable bridge. Two repaired cracks on either side of the mandola's back are apparent as well. The three piece neck has a v profile, with 15-3/4" scale, fully bound, extended ebony fingerboard, with a 1-5/8" wide nut; thin original frets present with notable wear/pitting, however the mandola plays and intonates with easy playing action (only slight fall off over extension), and a rich, 115 year old sound! Includes later chipboard case.
