The Electric Spanish 345 model is one of Gibsons most versatile and iconic instruments. With similar looks to its sister ES-335, the 345 offers up finer features, by way of the stereo "Variatone" pickup circuit, to its split parallelogram MOP inlay pattern. This semi hollow has become a bluesman's favorite, but due to its tonal variety can easily integrate into just about any musical styling. This particular example from the original owner has been well travelled, but cosmetically very well preserved.
All maple construction, the body is fully bound and features the same maple center block as the 335; designed for rejecting feedback that the full hollows were criticized for. Elegant gold hardware is present, this particular example having its original factory Bigsby. The forever cool "Custom Made" plaque between the roller and saddle. Gibson's original, historically impressive Patent pickups present. Original pot covers in tact, along with the fully functional stereo variatone circuit - offering up a myriad of phase options - and we'll include a simple Y cable.
The neck is designed out of a single piece of mahogany with a bound ebony fingerboard, again adorned with the split mother of pearl parallel inlay pattern. Original Gibson / Kluson gold tuners present and fully functional. Interestingly, there is a "2" stamped at the back of the peg head above the serial number, underneath the black finish. Presumably, this had a factory done repair job at some point. The volute feels clean, and only under certain lighting can one potentially see an old repair in the treble side curve, the giveaway black finish nicely covering it up. The neck is designed with a Gibson standard 24.75" scale length, 1 21/32" nut width and a comfortable C profile that measures .82" thick at the first position tapering up to about .97" by the twelfth fret. The neck angle is excellent, the neck itself straight with low action that measures a mere 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret with room at the thumb screws on the saddle. Original frets and nibs are present, the frets themselves in functioning order, but showing a fair bit of wear (basically in every position) - making it an contender for refret in its future - not really necessary, so the decision best left to the next owner.
The guitar is cosmetically very clean, showing only the lightest superficial surface wear and checking. The gold has began to fade, as they all have - and in only the coolest way. The binding is still in tact and holding up strong.
