A very thoughtful electric mandolin from the shop of George Weisel.

Carefully crafted, this electric mandolin was built in 1981 in Montana, finished in Bozeman at Flatiron's facility. The single coarse electric mandolins have a voice of their own - filling in a register that sounds closer to an electric guitar with easier mandolin playability. This 5 string instrument while being custom, is surely something many mandolin players will find helpful.

A solid body instrument, it has hefty weight and feel, with an arched top (and back) like a Gibson. The top is made of a flamed maple, a stained burst finish over amber, it has faded as its aged. The back is mahogany, with its arch showcasing the grain structure. Fully bound, this instrument has a lot happening at face value. With two hand wound pickups by Weisel, it has a vast variety of tonal options via its toggle switches. Simple Les Paul inspired Rhythm & Treble between the pickups, as well as coil tapping for each pickup, phase inverting, and series/parallel.

This versatile and unique instrument has a comfortable neck design. The set neck is designed with a standard 14" scale, the brass bridge floating like that on an Archtop instrument. The metal top adjustable saddle is fully adjustable for height and intonation. A bound and nibbed ebony fingerboard has a flat radius with appropriate mandolin size frets that show virtually no wear. Three piece neck has a thicker subtle V profile, like a nice vintage instrument. Scroll style peg head is in good shape featuring nude woman on a unicorn. Gold Sperzel tuners function as they should.

Overall, this instrument is in very good condition with expected cosmetic wear, namely checking in its thin finish. The playability is excellent with low action and plenty of room for adjustment at the saddle. Functional truss rod, the neck is nice and straight, and as mentioned the frets are very clean.
