Yngwie Malmsteen epitomizes shred - maybe more specifically, Neo-classical heavy metal. Debuting in 1984, Yngwie has become legendary in the world of Stratocasters, having been a serious purveyor of vintage examples for decades. Interestingly, Yngwie was the very first artist Fender made an artist model for back in 1988.

This Custom Shop recreation of Malmsteen's "Number One" is something to behold. Yngwie's debut in Alcatrazz featured a 1971 cream colored White Strat named "Duck" inspired by Hendrix's appearance at Monterey Pop Festival. Since then, he has moved along to a nearly identical instrument in an effort to preserving Duck. Number One is slightly different, featuring three of his signature Duncan wound YJM pickups - like that on this example. While this guitar does not have Ferrari or Donald Duck sticker like the original - it knocks it out of the park in terms of a recreation. While being a very recent used example (dating to only 2024) - it is in like new "Relic" condition.

Vintage White finish over an alder body, it looks straight out of 1971, with crazed checking and heavy relic'ing throughout. Vintage style hardware, its setup just as it left the factory and plays speedy like a dream. The Seymour Duncan YJM pickups are incredibly articulate and detailed. While being a hot pickup, they have respond like a real vintage pickup - providing glassy detail to incredible warmth and low end when coupled with a high gain amplifier.

The primary detail with these axes is the scalloped fingerboard made popular by Mr. Malmsteen. Very easy to play, its actually quite exciting to start enjoying. Relic'd maple profile, it is thin measuring .79" in depth at the first position to .85" at the twelfth. Brass nut, vintage inspired 9.5" radius and jumbo 6000 size fretwire that compliments the scallop and makes for quite the shred machine. The action is nice and low measuring 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string and 3/64" on the first -strung up with factory 8-46 gauge strings.
