A fantastic offset we welcome this fine Jazzmaster with open & excited hands. A top notch playing instrument, this example comes to us in good condition with a swapped bridge pickup, but otherwise unaltered. With a neck date of October '65, this guitar was likely finished in early '66, with a 1-13-66 pencil date on the neck pickup, and 8th week of '66 volume pot.
The alder body features its original '65 three tone burst finish in great condition, with only non problematic cosmetic wear including checking, some nicks and dings primarily along the edge - and maybe the only true oddity that the finish had lifted along the entire outside edge - presumably having had something decoratively adhered the outside edge (see photos), as well as some black speckles visible on the black. The body appears to be two pieces of Alder, with a very nice 3 tone burst. Original 3 ply red tortoise shell guard is intact, but has shrank a bit around mostly at the bridge inserts, and original screws, all of which appear in great, rust-free shape. Original bridge, and Fender stamped tremolo and arm present. Original neck plate with F stamp and year correct serial 119065 present. Original plastics, there is wear present on the pickup covers. Tremolo bar tip has been replaced, the original in the case.
Under the hood, the original cavity shield is present, with some added masking tape as well. The pots all appear correct with 1 Meg tone (Stackpole 304 6545), and Volume to early 1966 (Stackpole 304 6608). Orange cap present. The wiring has been touched up in its history, as the bridge pickup has been replaced with what appears to be a later issued Telecaster bridge pickup fit into the Jazzmaster cover. The pickup has a slightly hotter output, but all is functional and certainly "vibe-y". As stated before the neck pickup is original with correct pencil date to early '66.
The neck on this guitar is fantastic, a rare MOP dot inlay with binding example. Fender soon began only offering these guitars bound with block inlay, making this one a cool and unique piece for any Fender collector. Stunning Birdseye maple and Brazilian RW fingerboard, this neck has easy playability and low action. The neck is stamped 4OCT65B, accurately depicting this instrument with its B sized nut width of a common 1 5/8". The neck measures a unique .9" thick at the first position, with no real taper measuring about the same at the twelfth fret. The action measures a comfortable 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. The frets appear to have been replaced, or at least leveled down to a very Gibson "fretless wonder" kind of feel, the fingerboard very clean. The truss rod is about flush with the butt end of the neck, the truss rod functioning as it should. Repro tuners look great and function as intended.
Comes with original Fender black rectangle hard-shell case with legendary red/orange interior.
