A fantastic offset - this 1965 Fender Jazzmaster marks an early transition point for the company to CBS. The full move has been regarded by most collectors as post '65, but as history would prove, the early examples post transition featured strong aspects of the build quality of pre CBS instruments. While eventually larger changes to Poly based finishes, different pickguard materials, pickup windings and the like would occur, earlier transition rare variants of some instruments were produced - and we welcome this fine Jazzmaster with open & excited hands. A top notch playing instrument, in great shape.
The alder body features its original three tone burst finish in great condition, with only mild surface wear and small non troublesome nicks and chip near around its edges. The body is composed of Alder, with a very nice burst. Original 3 ply red tortoise shell guard is intact, but has shrank a bit around its original screws. Original bridge, and Fender stamped tremolo and arm present. Original neck plate with correct L series serial present. Under the hood, the original cavity shield is present, along with correct electronics, a mix of Stackpole and CTS pots, another common thing seen on a transition model, with correct 1 Meg tone dating to early '66 (Stackpole 304 6509), and tone to late 1963 (CTS 137 6350) - very cool. Orange cap present, and all wiring appears untouched. The neck on this guitar is fantastic, a clean profile with a bit of finish wear at the cowboy chord zone. Re-fretted, this guitar has easy playability and low action. The neck is stamped 4MAR65B, accurately depicting this instrument with its B sized nut width of a common 1 5/8". The neck measures .84" thick at the first position, with no real taper measuring .96" at the twelfth fret. The action measures a hair over a comfortable 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. The frets and fingerboard are clean with only very light wear in the fingerboard at the open position. The truss rod appears untouched, flush with the end of the maple. Comes with original Fender Jazzmaster instruction manual (rare), strap, and black rectangle hard-shell case with legendary red/orange interior.
