Extremely rare pony sized banjo from Illinois banjo innovator Edwin J. Cubley, who was active in the banjo field from about 1880-1893, and was awarded several patents during that time. The spun-over rim assembly measures about 8-1/8" across and is fully laden with original metal hardware, including Cubley's signature rounded shoes and nuts, original tailpiece, and patented metal dowel stick. The one piece mahogany neck has a 20.5" scale ebony veneer fingerboard with gorgeous inlaid marquetry flush frets, with stars, and a moon on the board and peghead overlay; equipped with Champion friction tuners; 1-5/6" diameter nut.
