Collings have been the purveyors of incredibly built acoustic instruments, with a nod towards the fine instruments from yesteryear Martin & Gibson. Collings have been used on stages around the world for their rich sounds, as well as fantastic build quality. The Orchestra Model "OM" clearly takes a page from Martin, and does so beautifully, suitable for any finger style player or flat picker looking for the slightly smaller body size. Particularly, the 2HESS stands for "2" style appointments (fully bound top and back, with Herringbone trim on the top - not unlike a style 28), an Engelmann Spruce top (a favorite for finger style players), and a short scale - which clocks in at 24 7/8" in scale length. The short scale allows its user to play with heavier strings with ease, and delivers substantial volume and low end that sometimes can go missing for finger style players. The Engelmann and short scale combination with the Indian rosewood back is a great combination for virtually any player looking for a great quality recording instrument and playing instrument.
This guitar comes to us in near new condition, having very little play time from its previous owner. Cosmetically there's hardly a mark on it, less some incredibly fine typical surface level scratches. The playability is still set at the factory specs of 3/32" in height on the sixth string at the twelfth fret, and 2/32" on the first string. The saddle appears untouched, and the neck is nice and straight, just like new. It has the expected 1.75" nut width with a nice volute and open gear Wavery tuners. The neck features Collings "Standard" Neck profile, a soft V shape that measures .86" thick at the first fret, and 1" at the twelfth (it has a typical 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle).
Comes with the original hardshell case.
