This is a very early example of a Bacon ff made for Fred Bacon by the Fairbanks/Vega Company circa 1908. The neck has all the feelings of the early Fairbanks banjos. It is at three-piece curly maple neck with an ebony fingerboard with all the ornamentation of the finest Fairbanks banjos, including the large mother of pearl " flowerpot" in the peghead,, which was the signature of the Tubaphone No. 3, which arrived in the catalog in 1909. It is, one of the lowest serial number Bacon banjos we have seen. The flamed maple neck boasts a beautifully engraved flowerpot on the peghead with long backstrap, and engraved pearl inlay on the peghead back, heel cap, and fretboard; 27" scale. The 11" rim assembly features the internal resonator design, with "wave" shaped cutouts on back; tortoise binding present on interior/exterior, with marquetry trim.
