Wechter has produced instruments since the late 1970's, and spent time working for Sweetwater in the mid 2000's. The Wechter name was taken to newer heights in 2013 moving production to Guangzhou China where production was ramped up with the cost kept low, certified by Abraham Wechter himself. The Sheerhorn model is an impressive resonator acoustic, complete with a handspun cone.
The all mahogany body is responsive and warm, complimenting this nice vintage inspired spider cone. Plenty loud, it has a nicely balanced tone - seen here with an aftermarket Replogle bridge. It has been outfitted with a nice brass Allen tailpiece. Cosmetically, this body is clean with simple surface wear present.
The round neck design meets the body at the twelfth fret, with a deep cutaway making for easy access to the upper register. The neck is made out of mahogany with a bound rosewood fretboard, the scale length measuring 25.4", with a standard 1 11/16" nut width. Used primarily with slide, the frets and fingerboard are nice and clean. The truss rod functions as intended, but it is setup currently for a good mix of slide and/or Spanish style playing the relief set so the action measures 6-5/64" in height at the twelfth fret - setup for open D tuning (currently, this can be changed within reason upon customer request). The nut has been upgraded to a nice graphite option, there is a small finish chip near the bass side of the nut, but nothing troubling.
Includes original hardshell case.
