A very nice Washburn "New Model" three-quarter sized guitar dating likely to the 1880s. These fine instruments were very well constructed, with a nice wide grained spruce top with Brazilian Rosewood back & sides. A small 11" lower bout (8" upper bout), and 3 3/8" body depth make it a great couch companion that is very impressive sounding. Ladder braced, this guitar has a nice warm tone, low-mid's forward with the nylon classical string setup, these are lightly braced and have nice volume. Easy to play, the neck is straight with a bit of fall off at the fingerboard extension, typical with this neck angle - and it yields an easy playability, measuring a low 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret with a fairly tall saddle present. The shorter 21.6" scale length, coupled with the 12 fret to the body design makes this guitar very cozy to play and fairly easy to get used to. The thin V profile typical for this era is clean with only subtle dings present. It has a 1.75" nut width. Overall this example has been well maintained, making it a fairly clean example overall. The body has two sealed top cracks present located behind the bridge. The back and sides are in great condition, with only one notable crack about 2.5" long towards its base. The neck as mentioned before is nice and straight with some fall off due to the angle at its extension. It's possible that this guitar had a neck set long ago, which is not very apparent, but there is a very slight separation at the heel cap, as well as its tall replaced saddle - making this guitar is very playable. Replaced bridge pins. There is a sealed crack present in the ebony fingerboard at the extension. The frets have been replaced with a more modern tanged fret, having been originally produced with bar frets. Clean original tuners with ivory buttons work as they should. A very nice guitar for just about any player, and a nice collectable instrument that is hard to imagine being as old as it is!
