From the highly acclaimed "Wing" series, the Washburn Falcon was a high end model offered from 1978 through the early 80's and reissued a few times later on in the 90's. Many iterations were made in the first few years, including high level wood, tremolo, and neck joint options - all of which being professional grade. The Model C was the final version of the Falcon available until 1984. The flat top and double cutaway harken back to a nice double cut Les Paul, and the guitar plays similarly - which made these high demand player guitars. This unique example seems to escape the offered specifications and may have been of a limited run from Washburn at the time. It appears to feature a nice 1 piece veneer Rosewood cap amidst a matching, stained maple body. The original "Harmonic Lock" string-thru bridge is a nice heavy duty piece of hardware that yields good sustain and playability. Push/Pull pots on the Volume controls allow for a wide range of tones from the humbucker pickups. The pickups have been swapped on this example, and now feature a nicely paired Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck (from 2009), and JB in the bridge (from 2011). The original wiring harness and dog house are present in the control cavity. Rochester's own Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad sticker is present on the rear, metal control cavity cover. The cream bound top and fingerboard juxtapose nicely against this guitars dark finish. The guitar looks and sounds great and cosmetically comes to us in excellent condition. Some bumps and bruises are present, but nothing substantial. This example features a 5 piece set neck which is in great shape - straight with easy to play action. It is constructed on a 24.75" scale length with 22 jumbo frets (again bound). These frets are nice and clean with only mild even wear, likely from a recent level crown and polish. The action measures a comfortable 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. It has a slim nut width that measures a hair thinner than 1 5/8" - and the neck profile measures .84" thick at the first position and about .94" thick at the twelfth. This is an interesting example of a high grade golden era Washburn, suitable for the right player or amongst a collection. Comes with a newer hardshell case.
