An excellent offering, this is a fine classical mandolin built by the Vinaccia Family of Naples, who were pioneers of the instrument's modern design. The body features 25 maple ribs and maple skirt, rosewood binding, darkened spruce top w/ inlaid pickguard and fancy pearl rosette. The neck has a 13" scale with grafted peghead; ebony veneer present on exterior; beautiful inset tuners with small buttons of period material; ebony fretboard with original frets still in great condition.
The top has a repaired binding separation nearest the treble side of the bridge. The darkened top appears to be from old finish touch up and overspray, which has likely maintained the instruments structural integrity. The neck angle is strong, yielding very playable action measuring a low 3-4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. A very impressive Italian instrument.Original hard case included
