A nice conversion banjo with an unmarked neck.
Seen here with an 11.75" pot, it has a nice robust tone - currently strung up with steel strings, suitable for folk. Stamped 36182, corresponding to 1916 - this original pot has been well maintained, refinished, restamped, restained with some gloss finish work on its interior and new dowel rod. Original tortoise binding on the rim interior and exterior wall, with a black lacquered edge. Original notched tension hoop is in good shape, with all matched shoes and hooks, less one which was damaged and broken off; equipped with a reproduction No Knot tailpiece.
The conversion neck is made of a nicely stained maple with an ebony center strip. It has a 26" scale length, with the right feel for a vintage Vega (with a little bit of heft at the open position). Ivoroid bound ebony fingerboard with Vega inlay pattern. Clean frets and easy action. Equipped with Five Star Planet style tuners with ivoroid buttons.
