Super example of an original five string Vega Tubaphone No. 9 from 1923 with professional, commanding tonality; when first introduced in 1909 the Tubaphone No.9 was regarded as the epitome of banjo design, both cosmetically and structurally speaking. The large 11-13/16" diameter rim assembly is equipped with all original metal parts and hardware including Kershner "Unique" tailpiece w/ adjustable cams, notched tension hoop, hooks and nuts; serial and maker stamps present, with fancy marquetry rim cap; some light tarnish and wear present. The 28" scale three piece neck is of flamed maple stock, with a long backstrap, gorgeous high relief heel carving, with delicate engraved pearl inlay on fingerboard, backstrap, and heel cap; some finish wear/chipping is present, notable pitting on frets, and light forward relief present; equipped with later Planetary style geared tuners with pearl buttons (repaired crack on 3rd one), with geared fifth.
