Thompson Guitars out of Vernon British Columbia build and sell some really fine instruments. Thompson has produced their own line of flat top guitars, including the well regarded T-1 model like this example which dates to 1998. This slope shoulder mini jumbo is quite the bespoke guitar - featuring high grade wood choices and excellent craftsmanship. Sonically this is a great strummer with a lot of complex depth, and a huge open voice. The body is designed with a 16" lower bout (10.25" waist, 12" upper), constructed out of a very nice Canadian spruce top with very fine Indian rosewood back & sides. Elegant detail work including mahogany/ebony/maple binding and rosette, a simple, beautifully carved ebony bridge. Internally, it has tall split kerfing, a thick popsicle stick brace, tapered X bracing about 1.5" behind the soundhole - the bridge plate made of what appears to be rosewood (in very good health). Cosmetically, the body is in very good shape less some nicks and dings present on the top behind the bridge. The neck is designed with a long 25.6" scale length, with a wide 1.75" nut width. The neck is comprised of a thinner mahogany profile measuring about .81" in depth at the first position, tapering up to about .86" at the ninth fret. a fully bound ebony fingerboard with a very subtle radius, it is bound in maple with easy to see over sized side dots. Vintage sized smaller fretwire is nice and precise, showing virtually no wear present. The neck angle is good with the original saddle standing tall and the action measuring about 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string and 5/64" for the first. Subtle inlay work at the peg head, it is outfitted with Sperzel matte chrome tuners which function as they should. Includes hardshell case.
