Nice original early 20th century banjo made after the death of Samuel Swain Stewart by his sons, hence the 4S moniker. These banjos were built for a short time from 1901-1905 and vary in specifications. The spun-over rim assembly has a 10-3/4" diameter with wooden interior, and bears the original plaque, serial stamps, and slightly faded 4S decal; small NY hardware, with screw shoes; later tailpiece. The one piece cherry neck has a 26-1/4" scale length ebony fingerboard which has some back bow, and only light wear on the frets. Overall a nice playing banjo, there is some tarnish on the metal parts, and finish discoloration/wear on the peghead overlay.
