Richard Cogger of Ithaca is a skilled luthier who taught the likes of Andy Culpepper. Using excellent craftsmanship and high quality materials, he had procured flamenco and classical guitars that are not too often seen but are of high quality. We are excited to have this concert guitar in our shop, that boasts substantial volume, nice sustain and powerful basses.
Constructed with a solid Cedar top and Brazilian Rosewood back & sides, some might consider this the dream match up of woods - with Cedars softer and delicate presence, and Rosewoods complex and three dimensionality - this guitar has a nice and rich voice with lots of sustain and dynamic range. It is constructed with a fairly standard 370mm lower bout with a depth of 95mm depth at the base and about 90mm at the heel. Fully bound with colorfully stained multi-ply wood binding and marquetry on its soundboard, it is quite elegant and truly unique. The back and sides similar with the multi ply binding, with a nice three dimensional wood back strap that appears to be stained mahogany or koa.
Internally, it has a unique 6 fan bracing pattern with a crossing tone bar, that is very resonant and well tuned. The upper bout cross braces are carved to allow the longer braces to protrude un interrupted - a thoughtful and interesting technique. The sound hole similarly has an additional layer for support.
The neck joins the body at the 12th fret as one would expect, and is designed with a nicely standard 650mm scale length. The Mahogany neck has a thick ebony fingerboard and a skunk stripe. The neck joins the body with a modernized Spanish heel with harder angles but the guitar physically retains a reasonable weight of 3.8lbs.
Includes the original hardshell case.
