Recently made by Roy A. Gordon Sr. (Fort Ann, NY) as a custom order in 2022, we're tickled to see our first RAG mandolin trickle through the shop, having heard of these instruments since production began in 2008; sweet richness present, and really comfortable to play. The hand carved F style body has great arch, and is of highly flamed maple and a straight grained spruce top, finished in a light mocha matte finish; fully bound in red tortoise, there is some binding shrinkage and gap in areas around the scroll and on sides, with some light surface wear and scratching. Equipped with engraved plate geared tuners and cast one piece Weber style tailpiece with front posts. The one piece flamed maple neck has a 13-7/8" scale length unbound ebony fingerboard with slightly wider 1-3/16" nut, and ebony peghead overlay with maker and flower pot inlaid in pearl and abalone; reglued separation on smaller peghead curl above second D string.
