Some of the finest highlights of 1920's instruments are the high grade Resophonic guitars produced by National. Now nearly 100 years later, they have an iconic sound, excellent durability and are symbolic of an era. Original Tricone round necks are often associated with being *the* quintessential Resophonic instrument - this being an attempt from a previous owner to convert a square neck to such an instrument.
This is an interesting players guitar with a home-brew well intentioned semi round thick neck - still likely intended for square neck style playing. Due to the replacement neck, there is no serial number stamp, making associating a production date difficult. The new neck is comprised of a nice ebony fingerboard with slightly more decorated fingerboard MOP inlay, the 12th & 17th dots missing, exposing the bolts which hold onto the internally mounted tone bars). The neck is fully bound, atop of a piece of mahogany, and a thicker maple back profile - which measures a whopping 1.4" in thickness. Again, it clearly was used for lap playing - currently setup with a tall nut. One could consider re-profiling this neck as there is plenty to work with. Original open gear plate tuners function and are adjustable, but the sprockets of the gears have began to wear and sometimes turn a bit on the heavier side.
The body is in good shape with some expected surface wear given its near century in age. Structurally it all appears very much in tact and yields a good tone with solid volume. The tailpiece is still strong, albeit lifting slightly from the body.
Includes the original hardshell case.
