Boutique builder Michael Hampel of Chelan Washington sure knows how to build a fine instrument!
This copy of a vintage Weissenborn is an impressive feat, offering up a charming sound, familiar to the renowned instruments of the 20's & 30's. It is constructed with a Cedar top from Port Orford, its back & sides of Myrtlewood from Oregon. The interior has light spruce bracing - all resulting in a vibrant and open tone - something these hollow neck Weissenborn's are known for. The lower bout measures 14.75" across, with a depth of 3.25" tapering to 3" at the heel. The bridge (and binding) are made of black walnut, seating a tall saddle yielding a strong brake angle. It is outfitted with a K&K Pure Mini. The neck is designed with a 25" scale length and 2 1/8" nut width. Nice abalone dot inlay markers, it plays as it should, currently setup in open D tuning. Gotoh tuners.
Includes Access gig bag.
