In 1916, Martin presented to the world the very first "dreadnought" size guitar, manufactured for and in collaboration with Ditzen of Boston. The huge, 12-fret guitar sold very poorly at launch, and shortly thereafter, the Great Depression killed the struggling Ditzen company -- but the dreadnought would sail on!
100 years (and a whole lot of design changes) later, Martin presented the Dreadnought Centennial. This 2016 HD-28 features a gorgeous Sitka spruce top, paired with solid East Indian rosewood back and sides (25.4" scale length). With the exception of several >1mm finish dings which are nearly impossible to photograph, this guitar is exceptionally clean and plays like a dream.
The tremendously open and resonant sound of this guitar is simply stunning. It seems as though the builders at Martin certainly took pride in celebrating the centennial of the dreadnought. It features an 1 11/16th" nite as well as a Fishman Ellipse Matrix pre-amp with condenser mic/ under saddle pick up blending system installed.
Included with sale is the original molded Martin hard shell case.
