Designed for huge tone, the D-35's have become increasingly popular, especially fine older examples like this one here which dates to 1969. The model was introduced in 1965 as an interesting alternative to the ever popular D-28. The 35 model utilized scarce supplies of the increasingly limited Brazilian Rosewood. By building a three piece back, the company was able to use what smaller pieces they had of the exotic wood. This flat pickers cannon features what we love and expect from these guitars - warm and healthy tone, constructed with a loud thin top & exquisite back and sides. This one comes to us in good condition with very low play wear and some repairs. The top is in very good condition, with expected nicks, pick wear and a well replaced pickguard. The back and sides are generally very clean, and have some nicely straight grained Brazilian rosewood. The binding is well preserved with hardly any shrinkage. Internally, it retains the original oversized rosewood bridge plate. There are no internal repairs present, while externally there are a few locations worth mentioning - including a hairline pickguard crack (does not go through), some wear close to the binding at the treble side lower bout, including a top sealed crack about 2" in length, as well as a 2" crack in the bass side waist - both of which do not show any internal evidence that they go all the way through. The neck is nice and comfortable with a C profile that measures .85" thick at the first position and about 1.04" at the twelfth fret before the curvature of the heel. The original frets are present, and in good condition, the tops fairly flat possibly from an older level. This era of the model has a non adjustable T bar truss rod, which is functioning well resulting in a nice and playable action, measuring about 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret on the sixth string, and about 5/64" on the first. The saddle has been lowered, with about 3/64" visible in height above the slot of the bridge. It has a 1 23/32" nut width. Original Grover tuners present and function as they should. Comes with an era correct arched top hardshell case with umber interior.
