Martin is well known for their powerhouse dreadnaught guitars. A perfect flat picker, each one with volume and depth - primarily in the bass response - each with distinct character noted by the back and sides and other construction elements. The D-35 has become an iconic member of the Martin family, with its unique three piece back - originally a way to preserve remaining amounts of rosewood - and later becoming a player favorite - with alleged usage on Pink Floyds "Wish You Were Here". Constructed with a Spruce Top, X bracing and the 3 piece rosewood back, they retain much of what purists will love in a high quality Martin flat top. This example dates to 1996, and is constructed with a solid Spruce top, fully bound with multi ply binding, the back and sides made of Indian rosewood - the back again, constructed with three pieces and V bracing. The top is internally braced with a standard scalloped X brace, with a maple bridge plate. The body is in good condition and appears crack free, the binding reglued at the waist, with mild finish wear along its edge. The neck is constructed with a standard mahogany profile and a bound rosewood fingerboard with MOP dot inlay. It is designed with a standard 25.4" scale length and 1 23/32" nut width. The action currently measures 7/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string and about 5/64" on the first. Playable, the saddle has been brought down to a bare minimum - which implies that this guitar is in need of a neck reset in its future. It has a separation at the heel, further confirming that - but ultimately a decision best left to the next owner. Includes original hardshell case.
