A fantastic Martin 000-18, built in post war 1946, that comes to us in very good playing condition, pretty ready for its next career... Having had an old neck set that could frankly stand to be redone, it did result in a good player. Good low action with a nice tone, it's now in fighting shape - ready for its next owner.
This sweet sounding small body guitar could easily become a finger pickers best friend, with a nice classic well aged tone, and a responsive body. Good volume, dynamic, and with singing melody strings, this has a nice defined tone that would work wonderfully for the right finger style player - and certainly opening up well with a flat pick. Priced accordingly, these guitars have really blossomed in value.
Fully bound body, its solid Adirondack spruce top with traditional mahogany back & sides. The top is in great cosmetic shape with some checking present throughout. The bridge has been reglued, but does not appear as though it was shaved down. The original pickguard is nicely intact and looks great. The back and sides are cosmetically in good shape, but there are two longer sealed cracks in the treble side lower bout. Internally, it has non scalloped X bracing and a nice thin, but large maple bridge plate, something that changed in design a few times over the decade post war.
The 000-18 has a shorter 24.9" scale length and what one might call a super super shallow V profile, which is essentially a C profile with less broad of shoulders. The neck measures a comfortable .84" thick at the first position, with a taper to 1.1" at the twelfth. It has a typical 1 11/16" nut width. The neck is straight, and albeit having had a past neck set that could maybe stand to be re-done as the saddle is a bit low, the action is comfortable and typical, measuring about 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the 6th string and 5/64" on the first (which is actually a current industry standard), with it's saddle having been lowered to about 5/64" visible of the saddle above the slot. A small shim is visible at the fingerboard extension. Original tuners have been replaced, with a nice classic Kluson-looking Grover Deluxe option.
Weighs 3.4lbs.
Comes with an old but very nice hardshell case.
