A good project instrument can bring on a feeling of fulfillment and personal closeness to the end result. This 0-18K is in need of a skilled set of hands to bring it back to life.
Constructed out of Koa, these guitars have a tone all their own, and command a pretty penny in the current market. This example is priced as is, requiring a fair amount of work structurally - saving the next owner a bit on the front end.
The top has began separating from its sides, with a piece missing at the elbow region of the top. Along with some missing binding. The bridge has been replaced, converted from Hawaiian playing as many had. The tops began to sink with a crack near the sound hole parallel to the 6th string. Small cracks enter the top from the base end of the body towards the bridge. The bracing should be addressed, and reglued. The sides have some cracks as well, along the waist and at the base - some previously sealed long ago. The binding and sides are separating from the top but the back seems to be holding on well. The back is in much better condition with only a few cracks coming from its base end.
The heel of the neck appears strong, and with no past evidence of a reset. Without tension on the body its hard to know exactly where this will stand, but in its current setup with no tension the neck with a new (more appropriate bridge) may or may not need a neck reset depending on the avenues the repair goes. One can assume it would be a likely possibility as the top is sinking a bit - the fingerboard extension having a bit of fall off. Original bar frets, and shallow V profile are all in good condition.
A *very* nice, and super rare project.
No case.
