A 00 size guitar is a very versatile companion - maybe strongest for finger style players, it functions great as a sonically pleasing small body not too far off from its 000 or Orchestra Model bigger siblings.
This 00 dates appropriately to 1964 - having had some repair work in its past, it sounds and plays great. A Multi ply and tortoise shell bound top made of wide grained spruce. The top has some older repair work that does not seem to impede the sound - with two parallel longer cracks in its belly, along with a more significant crack likely from falling at the center of the base of the belly. Original tortoise shell pick guard is in good shape, and has a fairly standard issue pickguard crack underneath near its sound hole. Two cracks are running parallel to its fingerboard extension. All the mentioned cracks have been sealed externally with no need for internal cleats - also structurally sound. Scalloped X bracing appropriate for the era that has remained untouched. Original thin maple bridge plate is in good condition. Thick popsicle stick brace underneath the fingerboard extension. Original rosewood bridge with long bone saddle and black plastic bridge pins present. The back and sides are made out of standard 18 style mahogany back & sides - all of which appears in good condition with some fairly typical nicks and dings and finish blemishes - one longer scratch apparent on the back near its neck block. The binding has slightly shrunk notably near its waist.
The 14 fret neck is designed with a 24.9" scale length, 1 11/16" nut width, and is constructed out of Spanish Cedar with a Rosewood fingerboard. With no adjustable truss rod, this has an ebony rod running through it, which has done a very nice job at keeping the neck straight. It has a slight separation at the heel, but all in all it has a strong neck angle and yields very nice action that measures 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string, and 5/64" on the first - the saddle having been lowered slightly still fairly tall with about 6/64" visible above the slot. It has a very soft V that this era is pretty well known for, and it plays quite nicely. There is a fairly deep gouge likely from a fall in the profile of the neck around the 7th fret. The neck measures about .82" in depth at the first position, tapering up to 1.1" at the twelfth fret. The frets appear original, and in good shape, having evidently had a fairly recent level crown & polish. There is some divots in the cowboy chord zone of the fingerboard, that is not reflected in its fret wire. The original tuners have been replaced with unmarked Kluson style tuners with metal buttons - appearing and functioning very well.
Includes original chipboard case.
