The tone of a Maestro Echoplex is a beautiful history lesson in the heyday of rock & roll. Warm, soupy tape-y repeats, with a preamp section that has been the secret sauce of legions of players. Mild overdrive, slapback, sound-on-sound, and psychedelic oscillations only begin to describe the sonic glory this unit can achieve.

This unit dates to 1974 and although it is one of the cosmetically rougher units we have seen, it is perfectly functioning. The chassis has been re-housed by a previous owner in a custom built box that is absolutely charming. Roughly finished wood, unique vintage hardware, and a vintage c.1970’s Fender amp handle only add to the mystique of this unit.

Internally the electronics have also seen a complete overhaul, notably having all of the film capacitors replaced with orange drop capacitors - giving it a super low noise floor. The tape cartridge dates to 1978, and although old is still functional and sounds excellent.

The chassis is fairly clean, with a cigarette burn and a small crack on the left side of the control panel present. The only major blemish is the top of the slider, which is broken off and long lost. The slider is still functional and it is still playable as it is, so we have left it as is. Replacements are unavailable, so an improvised solution may be needed.

Egg footswitch is included.
