Ludwig's Commodore model was the plectrum banjo companion to their Ambassador tenor banjo, showcasing the firms top-tension rim assembly design, and other design and build features such as the cam-style "Banjo Action Regulator", and "Flaredge" rounded tonering design. Nearing 100 years old, this example is sold in its original hard case, held privately in the same collection for over 60 years. The gold plated rim assembly is of heavily gold-plated, hand-engraved, high pressure bronze, with top tensioning system, and original hardware including the armrest, engraved flange with tulip cutouts, neck adjuster, with replated/slightly later tailpiece (original resides in case pocket and was repaired at some point); the multi-ply walnut resonator with grand floral motif in marquetry on the back, back binding, with thick diamonds of colorful inlaid wood on the side between a delicate checkerboard scheme. The 27" scale walnut neck was built with a multi piece center lamination, which is also present beneath the bound ebony fingerboard, and heel cap; finely engraved pearl inlay present on the fingerboard and on peghead with model banner, and Ludwig logo. A finely playing banjo with extremely light neck relief, typical fret wear is present, tarnish on metal plating, with a multitude of hairline cracks on the neck's binding, and some on the ebony fingerboard.
