Native Hawaiian, Kerry Char relocated to Portland Oregon, and took his affinity for the ukulele with him. Char is a highly skilled and often commissioned builder, with a keen eye for detail, and superb wood choices. This tenor example comes to us in good condition from the original owner. It is constructed out of a very high grade Koa, with a baseline cost of about $3000 in the current market. It has decorated marquetry binding and rosette, and internally a nice fan bracing pattern yielding a open and "sweet" tone like a vintage example. The neck is constructed out of cedar with a nice ebony fingerboard and matching headstock. The neck has a standard 17" scale length, the bridge featuring a split slot from Char, presumably for players who might consider putting a wound 4th string on the instrument (to help with the intonation). The neck is nice and straight and this instrument plays great in each position. Great tuning stability thanks to Planetary tuners with nice ivoroid buttons. Cosmetically it is clean less some portions of the finish which have lifted - namely at the edge of the fingerboard. Includes hardshell case.
