A nice, American made tenor flat top on a budget - in need of some care!
This Kay K15 6115 tenor dates likely to the mid 1950's to early 60's. The concert size body has a thicker, solid spurce top with a laminate back. The 15.5" lower bout provides a nice amount of bass response and volume for a guitar typically sitting in the higher register - making it a good choice for any accompaniest. Setup currently for Chicago style playing (DGBe) - any guitarist or Ukulele player would be able to get right along - but one could easily set this up for fifths, tenor tuning. High action, it plays well in the first position.
Cosmetically, it is in good shape for the the age, with the cool two tone red burst finish sporting some age appropriate checking, light pick wear, and mild nicks and dings - but otherwise is in strong condition. The original bridge is pinned and holding true to the top, the wooden small dowel saddle slightly notched on each string to help alleviate the action. Ladder bracing, it has a nice warm, woody and dry voice.
The neck has a 23" scale length, the frets and fingerboard in good condition overall. The neck has a fair amount of forward relief, resulting in higher action measuring about 12/64" in height at the twelfth fret. One might consider a project neck reset on this... some might consider a new 6 string neck... the possibilities are here all on a budget!
No case.
