From maker John Sloan, we're tickled to present an inspiring example of his Fold A Jo, a self-storing banjo that utilizes a folding walnut neck, with aluminum rim; a powerhouse old time banjo, should be considered among the ranks of other mid twentieth century "homespun" makers like Kyle Creed or Jenes Cottrell. An invention all of its own, the pot measures 11" in diameter, and was made completely using chrome-plated aluminum; the rim is essentially split into two symmetrical halves, with an internal column, which bears the stamps and Chicago Heights IL address of the maker; large square shaped tailpiece, with adjustable wing nut; removable bound walnut resonator w/ thick band of side marquetry. The 27" scale walnut neck attaches to the pot via bolt construction into a large brass housing at heel (past repairs present on either side of neck beneath plate), with a large bespoke hinge which splits the neck behind the 7th fret via a large aluminum hinge; tunnels are present on either side of neck for fifth string on board and on peghead allowing for righty or lefty setup; rosewood backstrap with six pegs; robust pearl inlay with sparkly red accents. 1-1/4" nut width. Note: we have not yet attempted to fold this jo
