An HD-28 Killer? Keep reading!
In the late 70's, Hohner issued a limited release of handmade guitars built in Japan. Produced by master luthier Kazuo Yairi - these are exceptional instruments that would be promoted by Hank Williams Jr - "When you're looking for that big break, Hohner can be instrumental". This example comes to us in great condition, surely built by the hands of a well skilled craftsman, with quality woods - a great player, this has a huge sound, that definitely punches far above its price point!
It is constructed with standard dreadnaught specification, with a fairly wide grained spruce top, with straight grained Indian rosewood back & sides that appears solid via grain matching - the top bound with iconic herringbone trim. A dark tortoise guard, interesting rosette, bridge pins with pearl dots - this is a great looking guitar. Internally, it has scalloped X bracing, with a thin maple bridge plate.
The neck is designed with a standard 25.5" scale length, and a 1 23/32" nut width. The neck is made out of what appears to be Spanish cedar, fitted with a bound rosewood fingerboard complete with Martin style inlay. The neck itself has a thicker soft V profile which measures about .88" in depth at the first position tapering up to about 1" by the ninth fret. The frets and fingerboard are clean, likely having been used sparingly. It plays fantastic, the saddle appearing virtually untouched (about 6/64" showing above the slot), the action measuring a mere 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret. Unmarked tuners, they function as they should.
This is a unique guitar, certainly a conversation starter, and again one that sounds like it should cost twice as much.

Includes tweed hardshell case.
